  • It reduces inflammation of the scalp as well as treats scalp acne due to its antiseptic properties.
A study published in the February 2005 issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine sheds further light on the mechanisms of action that underlie ginger’s anti-inflammatory effectiveness. In this research, ginger was shown to suppress the pro-inflammatory compounds (cytokines and chemokines) produced by synoviocytes (cells comprising the synovial lining of the joints), chrondrocytes (cells comprising joint cartilage) and leukocytes (immune cells). • Ginger protects our skin from free radicals that cause damages to our scalp and lead to hair loss. It has a potential antioxidant property which makes our hair healthy.
A study appearing in the November 2003 issue of Radiation Research found that in mice, five days treatment with ginger (10 mg per kilogram of body weight) prior to exposure to radiation not only prevented an increase in free radical damage to lipids (fats found in numerous bodily components from cell membranes to cholesterol), but also greatly lessened depletion of the animals’ stores of glutathione, one of the body’s most important internally produced antioxidants. (Source)

Coconut oil is incredible at penetrating hair follicles and therefore it moisturizes and conditions the hairs. It boosts scalp blood circulation and helps to stimulate hair growth.
In a study published in the June 2002 issue of “The Journal of Dermatology,” scientists outlined the positive effects of onion juice on hair growth. A group of 23 patients applied onion juice twice a day; 86.9 percent of patients experienced regrowth after six weeks. Onion comes from the same family as garlic, the allium family, and its positive effect on hair regrowth comes from its high sulfur levels, which characterize all members of the allium family.
Onions contain many important nutrients, like vitamins C and vitamin B6. Onions also contain calcium and magnesium, along with potassium and germanium. Garlic, ginger and olive oil have their distinctive property to fight microbes causing hair loss and promotes regrowth of hair. In a study, it was found that garlic, when mixed with olive oil and ginger, helps to promote hair growth.
Garlic can help fight hair loss, found a study published in the January 2007 edition of the “Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology.” The study tested how much garlic gel boosted topical betamethasone valerate in the treatment of alopecia areata, a recurrent and non-scarring type of hair loss. The study concluded that adding garlic significantly improved the treatment of the condition. Perhaps that’s why topical garlic solutions are popular among folk remedies, some of which recommend slicing a garlic clove open and rubbing it on hairless areas. The remedy calls for an olive oil massage an hour later and leaving the treatment on overnight. (Souce
There are many vitamins and minerals which promote hair growth or prevent hair loss but some of them are vital and they can be found in ginger like potassium, sodium, magnesium, vitamin C and E. But some precautions should be taken while applying ginger and do a patch test to see it doesn’t react adversely to your skin. Do not apply ginger more than 3 times a week, it can cause irritation to your skin.
